Happy middle of the month!  I hope you are enjoying your month so far.  We just got back from Mexico where we celebrated Mother's Day weekend at a sweet all- inclusive resort.  I have to admit, with my complete and total break up with gluten a couple of months ago, I was a little nervous about the gluten dominant 'buffet' that I would be faced with morning, noon and night.  It caused me to reflect on my efforts, the challenges, the successes and the setbacks that I have had along this journey and how for any change to stick in our lives, the appropriate effort must be applied and practiced.  This is true in my yoga practice and consequentially in my everyday life.    


I will admit, I am not one of those quick learners.  It actually takes me a long time to change. Which is exactly what yoga reminds us (thank goodness).  If we want to change, it takes time, effort, persistence and conviction.  That is why I am so dedicated to my yoga practice.  Without it, I am pretty sure I would not have the focus to know what and when to change, the courage to take the first step, the strength to move through the obstacles, the flexibility to adapt when things don't turn out the way I planned, and the perseverance to continue with my efforts even when setbacks happen.  This is what the practice gives me.


I am happy to say that I didn't want to 'have just one bite' of gluten this past weekend like I have in the past.  After 7 years of practicing, with lots of progress and just as many set backs along the way, I feel this has finally become a part of me.  The best way to move towards what we desire is through practice and lots of it along with a willingness to let go of getting it right the first or even the 50th time.   From the Book, Being Happy by Tal Ben Shahar:  Thomas Edison failed ten thousand times while working on one of his inventions.  When this was pointed out to him, he said "I have not failed.  I've just found ten thousand ways that won't work."  My kind of guy.


At Yoga Blend, we are simply practicing...not perfecting.  We are learning...not knowing.   We simply offer what we have discovered along the way and hope that something will be helpful to you.
